Big Bird

This was a still life set-up that I painted from life one silly afternoon. I don't usually work on canvas (we normally use illustration board), so the surface was pretty different. It's always good to try new and different things!

HA! Sans Muppet it's oh so traditional. Whatever inspired the addition of Big Bird?

This is fantastic Mr Vallejo! Love the dark atmosphere. May I ask, as I would like to try illustration board, do you do anything to prepare it?

I love the blue vase, with the subtle lighting and the yellow from Big Bird showing through.

Why Big Bird? Actually, it was just a matter of putting together a bunch of things we picked up from Salvation Army. Big Bird seemed like he'd be something fun to paint.
As for the illustration board, we give it three coats of acrylic gesso (not sanded) and then mount it on foam core.
Glad you like the painting!

i have a question thats a little unrelated to this painting, but when you are blocking in a face, is there a certain area you like to begin with? like the eyes or nose or something? just a random thought haha...

Did you do this whole thing in one afternoon? My goodness, that is so much to achieve in a span of only a few hours! It's delightful to look at and I also love the idea of you all getting silly with art! :-D
