John Carter of Mars Painting!

At long last, here is the finished painting of John Carter of Mars. During the holidays, due to various ice storms and cold viruses, we were able to get plenty of work done. Not a whole lot of partying, but lots of painting. Well, you know, the farmers say to make hay while the sun shines...artists say to make paintings while you're housebound!

Happy 2009!

Sorry to hear about the viruses and ice storms, but you've got a new classic to show for the sacrifice in festivities-and it looks like it was a lot of fun to do! That's an especially handsome rendition of John Carter; he looks a bit like Tony Palumbo (?) Thanks so much for allowing us all to get a glimpse into the creative process on this one. It's gorgeous!

This is just beautiful. It makes me want to go back and read the whole John Carter series again. I hope you two are feeling better.

I can't even tell you how excited I was to stumble upon your blog. I grew up in Philadelphia and secretly admired your artwork getting my hands on as many of your calenders and paintings as I could. I say secretly because my mother didn't approve of the scantily clad women. You truly inspired me to explore the human figure in my artwork. Your work has been a gift in my life. Thank you.

You guessed it, Jen! That's our own Tony Palumbo as John Carter.
Thanks to all of you for the kind words!

Oh, man I had no split idea Boris and Julie had a Blog, what a beautiful finding... I met their work for the first time when I was only an adolescent kid and ever since I was totally in love with their fantastic style, You know, I remember some of their paintings published on the good old heavy metal magazine and a painting for a Molly Hatchet record... It's so good to find out you all, are very well and working... God bless Boris and Julie, I'm totally a fan.

Hello. My name is Gregory Becker. I have been a huge fan of fantasy art after I saw the book Mirage. I am new to the blog world. Just wanted to say that I love the work that you guys have done and your website is great. I started drawing 4 years ago and just studying the behavior of light in your work has helped a great deal. I just started moving the brush around also. I could use some honest feedback though.

Sorry about the deleted comments. I say things and then I rethink what I said. It's a character flaw.

Well, thanks for the kind words, Gregory! Glad to have your visit to our blog.

Great painting! (as if you could do otherwise ;))

I've been a fan since seeing the cover of Tarzan the Magnificent in the store when I was a teen. I even did a fair rendition of that cover in Prismacolor pencils and it stands as some of my best work, to this day. That cover really got me into Tarzan, which got me into John Carter. And now, to finally see a John Carter painting by you really brings me full circle. Thank you for a lifetime of inspiration and entertainment.

P.S. Will you two be in Florida anytime soon? I would love to take you to Disney (my wife works there). We would give you a special VIP tour! :)
