Appearance at Illuxcon

We wanted to let all of you know that we're going to be attending Illuxcon from Thursday, November 6 through Sunday, November 9.  It's going to be an amazing event with tons of top fantasy and science fiction artists.  There will be painting demos by such notables as
Dave Palumbo, Justin Sweet, Bob Eggleton, Dan Horne, and Jon Foster as well as a sculpture demo by Joe DeVito.
See you there!

Sounds like a great event, I wish I could go. Maybe next time.

I can hardly wait! And for your fans who might be reading this; I'm sure that IlluxCon will be well worth the investment if you are still on the fence about attending it (I think there are still a few tickets left). I had the great good fortune of attending the Illustration Master Class which featured demos by Boris, Julie, plus IlluxCon artists Dan Dos Santos and Rebecca Guay, as well as Dave Palumbo, who served as an honorary instructor. The education we received from all of them was absolutely priceless. Watching Boris and Julie paint is simply astonishing; you can see what they are doing, but still there appears to be some alchemy at work. The figures and environments emerge from their brush stokes as if by magic; no overworking and layers upon layers of paint. Just clean, brilliantly realized images. No matter how long you watch them (and I spent more than a few hours perched over their shoulders trying to absorb all I could) it's STILL hard to see exactly how they do it. Talent, experience, focus and a clear sense of purpose all come together to create something miraculous.

I'm unfamiliar with many of the artists who will be featured at IlluxCon because I've been away from the genre for more than 20 years. But in a way that's a good thing. It will make discovering new (to me) artists even more exciting. Amateurs and pros alike will benefit hugely from the weekend in tips, tricks, techniques, and inspiration aplenty, there can be no doubt about that!
